A gnarled branch reaches in from the upper corner, its dark, dry-brushed bark set against a few coral blossoms and round buds. Japanese plum flowers at the very end of winter, and the work holds that moment of first warmth with very little. It sits well above a dining table or a bed, where the open lower half keeps the wall light.
